Today, the employee-owned Kitchell Corporation is the holding entity of several companies that are part of Kitchell’s core business as well as those that operate independently.
Kitchell's roots are in hammers and nails. Today, construction looks very different than it did during our early days but some things, like our commitment to quality and customer satisfaction, remain the same.
In our earliest days, there were three unpaid employees, including Sam Kitchell and his wife. When Sam realized he could actually make a living doing this work, the magic began to happen. Soon came grocery stores, banks, school districts – all looking to Kitchell to bring organization and processes to commercial construction. This work led to bigger projects: destination hotels, cultural icons, public works projects and hospitals. Today, Kitchell Contractors, Inc. continues this legacy, bringing innovative techniques and integrated services to healthcare, shopping malls, hotels/casinos, and education projects throughout Arizona, California, Nashville, Tenn. and Austin, Texas. Two independently operated, wholly-owned subsidiaries of Kitchell Contractors are facilities and medical transition planning company FDI Planning Consultants, Inc., and Kitchell Custom Homes, a premier builder of showcase homes in California, Arizona and beyond.
Ten years after Kitchell’s doors opened in 1950, founder Sam Kitchell pioneered the construction management approach in the Western United States and quickly established a reputation for successfully managing complex commercial, industrial and institutional building projects.
Headquartered in Sacramento since 1978, Kitchell CEM has grown and responded to changing market conditions, embracing all construction delivery methods. The company also oversees a thriving Engineering & Architectural Services Division and the growing Kitchell Facilities Management, Inc. practice.
We've experienced the highs and lows in the development world, and have not only survived, but thrived with our portfolio of retail centers, office buildings and apartment communities.
Our development history represents one of our initial forays into diversification; we began as a developer of Rodeway Inns in the Southwest, and even created a new hospitality brand, Doubletree Hotels, which was eventually sold. Our holdings today include office buildings and neighborhood retail centers throughout California, Arizona and Texas, as well as luxury apartment communities we have developed in partnership with award-winning multifamily developer and manager Mark-Taylor. Our diversification in development now includes a thriving Property Management practice, which oversees the marketing and management of not only our own projects, but also several for third-party owners.
American Refrigeration Supplies is an independently operated HVAC wholesaler with 31 locations in six states.
Kitchell acquired hardison/downey in 2010 after a long history of working collaboratively on high-profile projects. h/dc continues to grow its presence in education, retail, restaurants, and student housing.
