This Paradise Valley destination property is one of the most alluring resorts in the Valley. Its setting on the north slope of Camelback Mountain overlooks what is perhaps the lushest desert setting in the entire area. Kitchell built a 10,000-square-foot spa, 24 villas, and an infinity-edge pool, and oversaw renovation of the 15,000-square-foot elements restaurant. Kitchell’s attention to quality resulted in this luxury resort destination receiving top awards and rankings. Built on the side of Camelback Mountain, it was transformed into a Japanese-style spa catering to the upscale client. Phase I of the project was a renovation of the unique American-Asian restaurant. Kitchell also renovated the spas, casitas, pool, and the extensive manicured landscaping. For a previous owner, Kitchell remodeled the 7,300-square-foot members’ clubhouse and kitchen. Prior to constructing the stand-alone building, Kitchell demolished one of the existing tennis courts. The facility was completed in six months, during which the resort continued to be fully operational.

The historic Hotel Valley Ho is one of the best-preserved examples of mid-century architecture in the nation. The renovation of this Scottsdale landmark included a 220,000-square-foot tower for 194 guest rooms and 27 condominium units, a new two-story guest wing, urban day spa and fitness studio, pool, restaurant and lounge. The original structure, built by Kitchell in 1956, reflects the City of Scottsdale’s cosmopolitan style. With the benefit of original plans and an initial design engineered for vertical expansion, we were able to analyze and plan for every detail in the project, including rehabilitation of the original hotel suites to match historic elements. In accordance with the City of Scottsdale’s Historic Preservation Commission, Kitchell located several specialty artisans to produce accurate replicas of concrete panels, pivoting privacy screens and stone veneer, which all utilized resources that are no longer available. In addition, ninety percent of the existing trees were salvaged and reused.
